Below is Dialogue Consulting Group's quick Cliff notes version of some of our PMSP© book's interviewing information. Our system recognizes the five fold part of the interview process. Before/During/Immediately After/The Thank You/Follow-up We believe it will help clarify the requirements for a successful interview process. A. Before an interview : Concepts to consider

 

  1. Do your own research, regardless what the recruiter or company tells you
  2. Review the search assignment or req
  3. Prepare your presentation, yes presentation, commit to writing
  4. Prepare your questions, jot them down
  5. Practice your descriptor or talking points, jot them down

B. During the Interview: These concepts or actions should always be in your mind as you interview.

 

  1. Hand the HA a business card, YOUR BUSINESS CARD, get theirs
  2. Don’t ever go NEGATIVE in an interview
  3. Focus on your ACCOMPLISHMENTS or the keys to your success
  4. Make note of reactions of the HA to those accomplishments
  5. Close for the job, and close again during the interview.
  6. What % of the time is the HA selling his opportunity during the interview and not buying your candidacy?

C. Immediately after the interview:  While still on site.  Concepts to consider.

 

  1. Immediately after the interview write down all your thoughts about the interview, good, bad or just “feelings” (In the car or on another floor of the building the interview took place.)
  2. After you have completed your immediate thoughts, assess your strengths based on the grid the HA used in the interview, chronicle it

D. After you get home: Get that thank you note in the email within hours of the interview.

 

  1. Review your thoughts about the interview
  2. Review your notes from the interview
  3. Review the Search Assignment
  4. Review the preparation materials you developed for the interview
  5. Alter the CIP materials to fit the interview

E. Follow-up  


  1. Drive urgency for your candidacy
  2. Be sure that your candidacy does not languish
  3. Ask again for the job, or you will not get it.
